Turns out, doing nothing is really hard.

Last week, Kel and I tried something new: taking one full day off.

No work.

No screens.

No “productive” tasks.

Just rest.

We were inspired by John Mark Comer's take on the Sabbath: a full day each week to disconnect, recharge, and just be.

Sounds simple, right?

We thought so too.

We started strong. Woke up. Turned off our phones. Went out to brunch.

But within the first hour, we caught ourselves trying to make a plan for the day, something structured, something productive.

Not traditional work, but still... work.

"Should we hit a workout?"

"We could do meal prep after this."

"Want to tackle some wedding stuff?"

For someone so focused on mindfulness, it was honestly quite embarrassing. Even when we think we’re taking a break, we’re not really resting.

We realized how often our “off” days still include a quick scroll, a chore, or a to-do list.

Even when we head to the mountains for the day, we often swing by the grocery store on the way home or sneak in emails in the morning.

It was a wake-up call.

So that’s our challenge now. Taking one true day off each week.

No screens.

No chores.

No work.

Just rest, presence, and slowing down.

I’m starting to realize if I can’t unplug for at least one day a week… I’m screwed.

If you're reading this, I’ve got a question for you:

When’s the last time you truly took a day off?

No distractions. No productivity. Just rest.

If you’ve done it recently, I’d love to hear how it went.

And if not, maybe this weekend is your shot to try.

Hit reply, I’d love to hear how it goes.

Last week, Kel and I performed in front of hundreds of people with this amazing crew! I’ll be posting a video of our dance tomorrow on Instagram. If you’re not following yet, now’s the time: https://www.instagram.com/tannerwmacivor/

Till next week, be kind, be curious and work hard.
