What motivates you? In our society people talk a lot about material things. The fancy cars, nice house and Rolex watches. While those things are nice, they never truly motivated me. When I was going through a difficult patch, and I thought, "man, once you are through this you can get that new Audi," it just didn't get me going. When I asked a different question, that's when everything shifted. Instead of "what things do you want", I asked, "what type of person do you want to be?" I want to be the best version of myself. To me, that looks like:
When I visualize the type of person I want to be, that shit motivates me. When I am at a tough spot in business, and I ask, "do you want to provide for Kel and your future family?" that works. When I am in a tough workout, and I ask, "are you someone that gives up or pushes forward?" I immediately do another rep. What type of person do you want to be? This is a hard question for a lot of people because once you say it out load, you start realizing if you are living up to that person. The truth can hurt, but… The only way to be the best version of yourself, is to define who that person is. Once I crystalized that person in my mind, I started noticing the actions that helped me become that person and the ones that didn't. Immediately I realized the amount of alcohol I was drinking was directly at odds with the person I want to be. Alcohol works against every aspect of my optimal self. It increases my anxiety, destroys my body, and reduces my motivation. Most importantly, it doesn't make me a better fiancé. Kel and I are always in step, but when alcohol is involved, I am more impatient, I am less aware, and I am lazier. Once I cut back on drinking, everything became easier. I have more clarity. I have more energy. I have more focus. It’s crazy how one simple change made such a huge difference. Favorite Photo from the Week: We saw the Northern Lights this week!!
