The music starts—Kel and I stare at each other, unsure of how to dance… We take a deep breath, visualizing what we were just taught, and we wing it. Stepping on each other's feet, laughing, and trying to remember the positioning. That’s pretty much been Kel’s and my experience every other week for the last two months. We signed up for an intro dance class, where each week they teach a different style. From salsa to East Coast swing to the two-step, we've been awkwardly trying to find the beat and remember the turns. I never thought I'd take dance classes but as the wedding started approaching, we figured it couldn't hurt. When we signed up, we both had the same goal, to come up with a fun first dance, and to not embarrass ourselves. We both saw it as a necessary step which would make us happy down the road. So we walked into the first class, nervous. Within 20 minutes, our mindset completely shifted. We were laughing, joking, and having an all-around great time. Since we were already out, we decided to couple it with dinner. This "wedding task" quickly transformed into the perfect date night. It reminded me how your outlook on an activity completely changes your experience. If you consider something "a task" or a "means to an end," you'll just go through the steps. You probably get that end result, but you won't enjoy the process. When you look at something as an activity, a fun event, or something you are fortunate to do, you'll actually start enjoying the process. And that’s a much better way to live. Enjoying the process, the events, and your day to day. So now our 6 weeks of intro dance is over. Our original plan was to now decide on the style we want and take 1 or 2 personal classes to choreograph our first dance and move on. Not anymore… We want to keep the good times rolling! So we are signing up for another semester focused on West Coast swing. Eventually we will have to choreograph a dance, but for now, we are just having fun. Check out today's Instagram if you want to see us doing a little East Coast Swing. I still haven’t mastered the steps without looking at my feet, haha. Till next week, be kind, be curious, and work hard. Tanner Forwarded this email? Sign up HERE Ready to live life to the fullest? It begins with drinking less. Book a free call! |
