Become Your Own Hero

A while back I watched a clip of Matthew McConaughey. He was being asked who his hero was. His answer?

“My hero is me in 10 years.”

At first, I rolled my eyes a bit. Classic McConaughey. Confident, cool, maybe a little too smooth.

But the more I thought about it, the more it clicked.

That answer isn’t cocky. It’s genius.

Most of us spend our lives trying to find someone to look up to. A mentor. A role model. Someone who seems like they’ve got it figured out.

But usually, that person is just close enough. You admire pieces of their life, but it’s not quite the full picture. There’s always something missing.

What if your ideal isn’t someone else?

What if it’s you, ten years from now?

To even know that guy, you’ve got to slow down and picture him. Where does he live? How does he spend his mornings? What kind of shape is he in? What kind of man is he?

That version of you becomes the standard.

From there, every decision gets simpler. You stop asking, “What would [insert typical hero’s name] do?” and start asking, “What would future me do?”

That’s alignment. That’s clarity. That’s purpose.

When your vision is built around someone else, it’s easy to second-guess and drift. But when your vision is built around your future self, you start to move with confidence. Every habit, every choice, every step gets filtered through that lens.

So here’s the challenge this week:

Stop trying to find someone to look up to.

Sit down and define who you want to be in ten years. Write it out. No fluff, just the real stuff. Then start making decisions like that guy is watching you right now.

Let’s go get it.

Favorite Photo of The Week:

Last weekend we were in Denver and visited some of our best friends. The best part, meeting Russell. The happiest bernese! Just look at that smile.

Till next week, be kind, be curious and work hard.
